You have been aware throughout every experience you have ever had: through childhood and adulthood, through every mood, every success and every loss. Each of these came and went, and the fact of being aware remained untouched by their coming and going. It is present now, as you read these words, exactly as it has always been.
Just come back to the simple feeling of being. Being aware. When I say ‘come back’, I mean come back from the content of experience to your being. Disengage from the content of experience: thoughts, feelings, sensations, perceptions.
Do not try to change the content of experience, or to control it or get rid of it. Just leave it alone; cease giving it your attention. Give your attention to your self. Or, more accurately, allow your attention to sink back into your self, the fact of simply being. Being aware. If you leave experience alone, experience will leave you alone. Just remain alone with your self, in your self. Simply abide as being. Rest as being.
