Hey there everyone,
You may have heard about the Ukrainian counter-offensive called “Operation Vivaldi”, which has been conducted east of the town of Lyman in the Donetsk Oblast recently. It’s been a very succesful operation that has alleviated some of the pressure on the two key cities in the fortress belt, Sloviansk and Krematorsk.
The number km2 reconquered by Ukraine varies from 150 m2 to +500 m2. The official announcements from Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps are low which is probably due to Op Sec considerations. Regardless, it’s the biggest Ukrainian advance since the Kherson offensive in the fall of 2022!
Anyway, the most important part is not how many km2 have been reconquered, but what this counter-offensive tells us about the Ukrainian capabilities and therefore what’s in store in the future. There are some super interesting technological aspects of the operation that I wouldn’t hesitate to call “game changers”. How far Ukraine will be able to keep pushing remains to be seen, but Operation Vivaldi indicates the Ukranian push is far from over.
Therefore, I’ve lined up a Live Q&A Ukraine Special for paid subscribers today at 5 pm CET (11 am Eastern). I’ll go over all I’ve managed to dig out about this highly spectacular offensive operation and take all your questions after my briefing.
