Greetings everyone. I’m excited to share a recording from the live interview I held earlier this afternoon with Manny Rutinel, who is running to flip CO-08 blue this November. Our discussion today is a reminder of why he is a formidable candidate in a very strong position to win.
In the last few days Republicans have moved money from other losing races and re-directed them into a handful of close races - including this one in Colorado. The incumbent here, freshman Rep. Gabe Evans, won this seat by fewer than 2,500 votes in 2024, one of the smallest margins of any GOP wins last cycle:
I asked Manny how he was going to close out the race in these final three weeks. Here is what he told us:
We've got all sorts of meet and greets across the district. I'm going to churches, sometimes multiple times every Sunday that are welcoming me. I've even gotten invited and have made stops at quinceañeras across the district. So we are making our way into every nook and cranny of the district. Of course, I'm knocking doors alongside our volunteers and our field organizers.
You know, I chatted with the DCCC a few weeks ago, and they told me that our campaign had knocked on more doors than any other House race in the country. And so that's how we fight back against the misinformation and lies that they're trying to spread on the airwaves –– by being in the district, showing up to the fairs, to the festivals, to the churches, to the quinceañeras, to make sure that folks understand that I'm there fighting for them to lower gas prices by putting an end to this forever war in Iran, lowering grocery prices by putting an end to these corrupt, chaotic tariff policies, and of course, reversing the cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Because right now hundreds of thousands of Coloradans are getting kicked off their health care.
Here’s Manny on his district:
It's a district that is working class. It's 40% Latino, the most Latino in the state, one of the most Latino in the entire country. And there are folks that are just trying to make ends meet, provide for their families, make their communities more vibrant. Everywhere they look, Donald Trump and Gabe Evans are destroying their economy, the programs that are the foundation of the American dream, and of course, trying to find new ways to terrorize our communities.
So we're going to put an end to it come January when we take back the House. And this is the seat that does it.

Here’s Manny in last week’s debate in CO-8. He is a very good candidate:

We have a country to save, and elections like this one in CO-8 to win this November, together! - Simon

When people hear about my personal story and our campaign’s momentum to take back the House, they tell me I’m Trump’s worst nightmare. This fight is personal for me.
I’m the proud son of a working-class single mother who had a dream of a better life for her children. Despite America’s promise of opportunity, I grew up filling out food stamp and Medicaid forms to survive—the same programs that Trump and Gabe Evans are destroying.
During the Great Recession, the bank foreclosed on our home.
With hard work, determination, and the love, support, and grace of my family and community, I found my way. I worked at McDonald’s through high school, and a scar on my arm serves as a testament to the hundreds of times I sold my blood at a plasma center to pay my family’s bills. I started at a community college and then slept on my friend’s couches and floors during my first semester at a public university. I then served as an economist for the US Army Corps of Engineers and became a first responder after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. I made a promise to always fight for those who have been left out, left behind, or left without a voice. A promise to ensure that everyone in America truly has a fair chance at success.
Equal opportunity starts right here in our community. We must fight to lower the cost of housing, gas, groceries, and healthcare and stand up to stop the corruption in Washington. I’m going to bring a real voice to our nation’s capital to improve the lives of everyday people so that every Coloradan has an honest opportunity to succeed.
