Something very useful is happening around AI right now.
We spent the last few years learning how to talk to ChatGPT and Claude. Then we learned prompts. Then Projects, agents, Skills, MCP, automations and coding tools.
But there is another skill quietly forming around all of this.
It is the ability to make AI watch what is happening, understand what matters, take the right next step and keep the whole process moving without you doing the same work every day.
And once you learn it, you start looking at business work very differently.
I think this is one of the AI skills worth learning now
Imagine you sell software to growing companies.
At 10 AM, a company in your target market starts hiring five new salespeople.
Your system notices it.
AI checks what the company does, whether it fits your ideal customer, who probably owns the problem, what changed recently and whether there is actually a good reason to contact them.
If the company looks weak, it gets ignored.
If it looks interesting, AI researches it properly, finds the right person, prepares a short brief and puts it in front of you.
You did not search LinkedIn.
You did not copy company names into ChatGPT.
You did not spend the morning opening 17 tabs.
That little machine is GTM Engineering.
And interest around this skill has moved quickly. An analysis of roughly 1,000 job postings found GTM Engineering roles grew 205% year over year from 2024 to 2025. The most common work in those jobs was building GTM workflows, connecting tools and working with CRM systems.
The timing is also interesting because AI models have just become much better at the kind of work GTM systems need: research, decisions, tools, browsing and long-running tasks.
So if you already use Claude, ChatGPT, Clay, n8n, Make, APIs or AI agents, GTM Engineering is much closer to what you already know than the name makes it sound.
Below, I am going to build it from the ground up.
First, forget the fancy name
GTM means go-to-market.
In very simple terms, it is everything around finding the right customer and getting your product in front of them.
GTM Engineering means turning parts of that work into a system.
