Megan Melissa Fox didn’t merely ask cautious questions about an inadequately corroborated news report. She published that the case of a pregnant 10-year-old Ohio rape victim was “most likely a fraud and a political hit job.” She suggested there was no evidence the child even existed.
Then the public record arrived.
Police had opened an investigation before Fox began her campaign. The child identified Gerson Fuentes. Detectives obtained a DNA warrant. Fuentes confessed and was arrested. DNA evidence later confirmed he fathered the pregnancy, and he ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of rape. He received a life sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years. The Franklin County indictment charged Fuentes with two first-degree felony counts involving a victim under 10.
Fox acknowledged her “incorrect initial hypothesis that the child may not exist.” But she didn’t stop there. She pivoted, suggesting her reporting might have caused or accelerated the arrest. Glenn Beck floated Pulitzer praise. 𝕏Ann Coulter thanked Fox for supposedly forcing Ohio to “cough up” the perpetrator. PJ Media reinforced the victory-lap narrative.
