Here’s what I mentioned on The Woody Show the week of October 20, 2026!
You might be surprised how many subscriptions are quietly charging you every month. On iPhone, go to Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
Don’t forget to check PayPal, Amazon, Roku and your credit card statements. And remember, deleting an app does NOT cancel its subscription.
How to find and cancel forgotten subscriptions
I’ve been experimenting with AI assistants that can look at financial transactions, help track spending and identify subscriptions. I’ve even used ChatGPT to help organize expenses for a home remodel.
The important thing is understanding what access you’re giving these services. Reading transaction data is very different from giving an AI agent control of your browser or bank account.
My advice: Start small, review permissions carefully and don’t give these tools more access than they need.
Apple finally has a smart home display to compete with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. The $299 Home View has a 7-inch screen for controlling smart home devices, displaying photos, making FaceTime calls and using Apple’s smarter Siri.
One thing to watch: compatibility. Not every smart home product works with every ecosystem. Look for Matter support when shopping for smart home devices, and check individual product compatibility before buying.
Apple Home View and other new smart home gadgets
If your iPhone storage is filling up, start by deleting large videos you no longer need. Concerts, fireworks and accidental recordings can take up a lot of space.
I also mentioned an app called Flic, which lets you swipe left to delete photos and right to keep them. It uses on-device AI to help identify blurry pictures, duplicates and large files. Your photos stay on your phone, and you get 50 free swipes per day.
I tested a $15 Philips rabbit ears antenna and a $35 Channel Master Flattenna. Both picked up roughly 100 channels from my office, although the number of channels you’d actually want to watch is another story!
The trick is antenna placement. Visit RabbitEars.info, enter your address and see which stations you can receive and where the broadcast towers are located. You can even use your phone’s compass to help aim your antenna.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Amazon’s inexpensive Fire tablets, but the company’s new Alexa tablets are a big improvement.
There are three sizes, starting at $229.99, and they finally have access to the full Google Play Store. That means you can install familiar apps like YouTube, Gmail, Netflix and Chrome without the workarounds required on older Fire tablets.
I’ve been testing the high-end model, and it’s a much better experience than I expected. My advice is to wait for a sale if you don’t need one immediately.
