Are you fucking kidding me?
I realize that’s not traditionally how you’re supposed to begin an op-ed about constitutional law, but I’m struggling to find a more sophisticated response to what is currently happening in Missouri.
There is a federal election in eight weeks. Missouri has already held its congressional primaries. Approximately 1.2 million people voted in them.
And, as I write this, the state has conflicting court orders over which congressional districts it’s supposed to use in November.
One court says the old map. Another says the new map. The United States Supreme Court has already gotten involved, more appeals are underway, and somewhere in Missouri there are election officials who presumably just want somebody—anybody—to tell them which ballots they’re supposed to print.
Welcome to America in 2026.
