Morning all. Got a few things for you today…..
Let’s start with some wild new polls that have come in overnight and this morning…….
Angus Reid, a Canadian pollster, found another double digit generic ballot lead for Dems:
The just released Economist/YouGov weekly tracking poll has the likely voter generic ballot at 53%-38% (+15) and +8 with registered voters (with the candidate named in each case):
A new, high-quality poll of Ohio is very encouraging:
A new Suffolk poll of Ohio has only released results from the Governor’s race but they are similar to the Marist poll - Acton leads 50%-41%.
In North Carolina an AARP poll by Trump’s own pollster has Roy Cooper ahead by 11:
The media is awash with sky is falling for Trump stories this morning. Here’s the homepage of Politico right now:
Here’s the second story on Politico right now:
G. Elliott Morris broke out data from his monthly poll and found overwhelming public opposition to various forms of Trump Election Day fuckery. Though it must be noted that there is meaningful support for these illicit tactics among Republicans/MAGAs:
As we’ve been discussing here Trump’s illiberal, strongman actions have been repeatedly rejected by the American people. It may delight some in his base, but the country has rejected them again and again. By embracing the early vote we can reinforce a powerful contrast in these last five weeks of the election between one party that embraces pluralism and fights for our rights and freedoms and another party which has abandoned and turned on the American creed. It is critical that we establish this contrast in the coming weeks to make it far harder for Trump to prevail in whatever it is he is cooking up between now and the peaceful transfer of power that is to take place early next year.
A few more stories we are tracking……..
As the AI companies get ready to meet with Trump today OpenAI has announced that it is delaying the release of its next model over security concerns.
Rubio - “foreign actor” was behind an attempted attack on an US airbase in the UK:
The U.S. secretary of state, Marco Rubio, said a “foreign actor” was behind an incident over the weekend at a British air base used primarily by American military forces, calling it a “very serious situation” without providing details or evidence.
Five men were arrested early Sunday on suspicion of explosives violations and of preparing a terrorist act after local residents tipped off the police. The men were released Monday evening on bail, an unexpected development that suggested the British authorities had not found enough evidence to link the suspects to a specific act.
Do we think if it was Iran Rubio would have held back the name of this “foreign actor"? Or perhaps the foreign actor is one that that is committing sabotage all over Europe right now and bombing Ukrainian hospitals without any condemnation from the Trump regime:
CNN was allowed access to an immigration court for children. Estimates are that they are 25,000 children in the system right now. Here’s the opening few graphs from their must read report…..
In a Texas courtroom Monday, 25 migrant children lined the pews — a 6-year-old pretended to fly an airplane, a 3-year-old played with the mic, and a teen girl tried to make eye contact with a friend. The judge reminded everyone of what was at stake.
“I see you’re smiling and think these proceedings are funny, but I need you to pay attention,” the judge told the teen girl. “They could determine whether you remain in the country or are removed.”
Migrant children as young as 2 are showing up at immigration courts nationwide, many without attorneys, to make their case to stay in the US and avoid deportation.
Inside the immigration court in Harlingen, Texas, on Monday, caseworkers quietly explained to the minors who everyone was — from the interpreter and secretary to the judge in a black robe.
Most of the children, dressed formally with neatly styled hair, waited impatiently for the judge. Among the first to appear before the judge was a 13-year-old Honduran boy named Angel. He didn’t have an attorney.
Asked whether there was a reason he couldn’t return to Honduras, Angel told the judge, “My mom and almost my entire family are here. It’s too dangerous to go back.”
But that wasn’t enough for the judge, who told the boy he did not qualify for asylum. “Would you like to request voluntary departure, or should I issue a removal order?” The judge asked.
“I don’t know,” Angel replied before bursting into tears. He stared ahead stoically and continued to cry, eventually saying: “I have no one. I have nothing.”
“I understand, but based on your answers, US immigration laws are very strict,” the judge concluded, and gave Angel until the end of the month to appeal his deportation order.
Here are drawings CNN released from the proceedings:
More:
On Monday, an attorney from USCRI watched silently as a virtual “friend of the court” for some of the children, including Angel, according to Lauren Fisher Flores, legal director at ProBar, which provides legal services to unaccompanied children across South Texas.
“In the 20 years I have been in this field, I have never seen the immigration court strip children of their right to seek safety and protection under the law,” said Flores, who attended Monday’s hearing. “We are witnessing the unraveling of due process protections that have been enshrined in our laws for decades. Children deserve better than a fast-track deportation system.”
Monsters they are. Fucking monsters.
No group of Americans have ever deserved to be removed from power more than these terrible, terrible people.
Which is why it is time now to…..
