My long-time friend, Niall Ferguson, actually Sir Niall Ferguson, is a brilliant scholar, author, and journalist. He’s arguably the world’s top historian, measured not only by what he has to say, what he knows, what he’s researched and covered in his extensive writings, but also by how he says it. Niall is a superstar expositor of the past, present, and our likely future, whether via a BBC documentary, a book, an interview, and everything in between. I’ll let his bio convey his major accomplishments. But, to me, Niall is just my buddy I met at the Bank of England in 1998 when we were both serving as Houblon Norman Fellows and trying to find the potty at the The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street. The Bank crammed us in a small office with three huge desks, with no standing room except in front of a saving grace -- a blackboard. The rest is history.
