After leaving office in 2021, Donald Trump took scores of boxes of government records to Mar-a-Lago, including hundreds of classified documents containing some of the nation’s most sensitive secrets. According to the federal indictment, the materials included information about U.S. nuclear programs, military capabilities, vulnerabilities to attack and potential retaliation against foreign adversaries.
The boxes were moved around Trump’s private club—an active resort frequented by thousands of members and guests—and stored at various times in a ballroom, bedroom, office, storage room and, famously, a bathroom and shower.
After the National Archives and Justice Department sought their return, Trump resisted turning over all the classified material and took steps to conceal some boxes from investigators. An FBI search in August 2022 recovered more than 100 additional documents bearing classified markings. The criminal case never reached trial and was ultimately dismissed after his return to the presidency.
But, yeah. It’s the media that’s a threat to national security.
