I interrupt your regularly scheduled Rod Dreher’s Diary feed to tell you about a terrific conference starting tomorrow in Atlanta.
Two of the most important and interesting Christian thinkers in the world today — Paul Kingsnorth (Eastern Orthodox) and Carl Trueman (Calvinist) — are heading up a two-day event talking about what it means to be fully human in the age of artificial intelligence, transhumanism, the decline of Christianity and the imago Dei, and other threats to our humanity.
Kingsnorth is the author, most recently, of Against The Machine: On The Unmaking Of Humanity.
Trueman is the author, most recently, of The Desecration Of Man: How The Rejection of God Degrades Our Humanity.
I’ve read the work of both these Christian public intellectuals, and know them. Trust me, Atlanta area readers, you’re not going to want to miss this. I’d be especially curious to see how the two very different Christian traditions these men represent agree and differ on vital questions facing us all.
Go here for more information about the conference, and to pre-register.
It’s $49 per person to attend, but I can say without fear of contradiction that it will be worth it. Of course I don’t know what either man is going to say, but having read them both, and heard them speak, you’ll be thinking and talking about this one for a long time.
Priests, pastors, religious leaders, teachers, and parents — please make every effort to go. If I had to make a short list of the small-o orthodox Christians whose thinking and writing was at the cutting edge of cultural analysis today, Kingsnorth and Trueman would be at or very near the top.
Just wanted to let you know about this while there’s still time to get tickets. Please share this post widely!
