For nearly two years, the legal war surrounding Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and attorney Tony Buzbee has revolved around one woman and one extraordinary accusation. She said Carter raped her when she was 13. Carter said it never happened. Buzbee put the allegation into a federal lawsuit. The lawsuit later disappeared.
Now Jane Doe has withdrawn the accusation against Carter and declared that she never met him. Carter has dropped her from the lawsuit he brought against her and the lawyers who represented her, while continuing his claims against Buzbee and others.
Two new federal filings show where the fight is heading next. Buzbee’s attorneys accuse Carter of presenting a “bought-and-paid-for Declaration” from a witness his own lawyers previously called unreliable, while Doe’s new attorney is trying to keep parts of her latest account secret.
