Imagine you’re scrolling online and you happen upon a young, attractive man. As he walks you through his city, he doesn’t note famous spots or points of interest. Isn’t there to share the best place for a burger or his favorite local shop.
While the city scrolls in the background, he’s talking about religion, specifically to dispel myths about how religion is viewed where he lives.
Especially since you were subjected to forced religious indoctrination from the time you were in kindergarten until you began deconstructing in your early 30s. You prayed the Sinner’s Prayer in your kindergarten reading circle, but on-and-off into your teens, you had nightmares about being burned alive every time your pastor preached about hell.
You couldn’t really remember the mumblings of five-year-old you. So you went forward during a hell-fire-and-brimstone revival meeting at 17, where for five consecutive nights the speaker dangled you over a burning pit until your knuckles turned white from gripping the back of the pew in front of you, and you prayed the Sinner’s Prayer again.
You didn’t choose where (or if) you attended church. From age 4 until you left home at 22, you were in church every time the doors were open. Even after you registered to vote at 18, church attendance was a condition of living in your parents’ house.
Nor did you choose to enroll in the church kindergarten or graduate from the church high school. Every time you begged your parents to send you to public elementary, junior high, and high school, your requests were rebuffed. Sometimes, you were punished.
Because both human beings and AI-generated similes can say anything online, you try to verify the young, attractive man’s claim. You find one of the fundamental elements of online propaganda: **His claim is true, but it isn’t the whole truth. **Had you nodded, agreed with him, and moved down your newsfeed, your brain might have subtly been altered to be more sympathetic to the merging of church-and-state.
Now imagine the city the young, attractive man is walking you through is in China, and he’s casually discussing religion in China while heading to work.
The Chinese government mandates that children cannot receive religious schooling, even if their parents prefer it. The governing party claims to foster adult decisions about religion, but the true religion in China is Government and Party. Atheism is the preferred state when it comes to the hereafter, but children are never too young to be indoctrinated into Party worship.
Whenever China appeared, it was almost always called “Communist China.” As The Heritage Foundation put the finishing touches on Project 2025, Russia invaded Ukraine (the former mentioned 108 times.) Iran was supposedly enriching uranium (57 mentions.) North Korea was testing advanced missiles (20 mentions.)
P2025’s authors spend a chunk of their manifesto vilifying and excoriating China as hideous and communist. So we have to ask the question: Why do Project 2025 and White Christian Nationalists mimic much of Communist China’s religious framework?
Because the Chinese government has a plan for religion. Of course it does. We’ll cover it tomorrow.
Given the unfortunate result of yesterday’s German elections, increasing Russian threats to Europe, and US meddling in Latin America and Canada, along with the attacks in the Middle East and resource theft/genocide in Africa, no one on this planet is escaping our billionaire overlords’ master plan (of which Project 2025 was seminal.)
Wherever you live, this week’s series matters for you and for everyone you know. No less because the fight we are in today is much like the fight that working Americans went through to establish Labor Day in the first place.
