But unlike other CFPs, Rick holds a BA in economics and a PhD in economics. He earned both at the University of Chicago. When it comes to economics training, it simply doesn't get better. After graduating, Rick taught at Johns Hopkins, did business. consulting, worked for Scudder Investments, and then, 21 years ago, started Sensible Financial Planning , his financial planning firm. Over time, Rick has become a thought leader in the advice field. He's quoted routinely in leading media and writes for Forbes. Sensible is located in Waltham, Mass. Its hallmark is economics-based financial planning. Rick's firm runs MaxiFi Planner , my company's software, for all his clients. MaxiFi can be used directly by households. But many people prefer to work with a financial adviser, especially someone like Rick, who can help manage their investments. Rick serves on MaxiFi's Advisory Board . He's been an enormous help guiding the program's development. "Sensible" says it all when it comes to Rick. He exudes common sense, informed by a deep knowledge of economics and finance.
