Sometimes you invite someone onto a Live and within about five minutes you realize you could probably talk to them all afternoon.

That was Alan Rifkin.

Alan joined Kile and me today, and the conversation went everywhere…writing, journalism, Jewish identity, Israel, October 7, September 11, and what happens when the stories people tell about the world start colliding with what we can see happening right in front of us.

Alan has spent decades writing and thinking about how stories are told, who tells them, and what gets lost along the way. That made for a particularly interesting conversation right now, when Jews are watching other people tell our story for us…and very often barely recognizing the story they’re telling.

There were laughs, some very serious moments, and quite a few places where we could have happily kept going.
