Courts Rule Against Trump on Mail-In Ballots and Kennedy Center
On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against Donald Trump’s effort to weaponize the U.S. Postal Service to restrict the use of mail-in ballots in November’s midterm elections. In an unsigned and single paragraph emergency docket entry, the Court majority upheld the lower court’s decision blocking the plan, saying “the Government is unlikely to succeed on the merits of its challenge to the District Court’s preliminary injunction.” Justice Kavanaugh concurred with the ruling, though he made clear that his opposition to the USPS rule on mail-in ballots was more about the timing than the substance. Justices Alito and Thomas publicly dissented. Trump lashed out on Truth Social in the wake of the ruling, calling it “a big loss for Republicans” and complained that “this Supreme Court is bullied and cajoled by the Radical Left into making decisions that have set America back at least a hundred years. These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court, they are merely a shell of their original selves.”
On Tuesday, Trump endured another loss after a federal judge ruled that the Kennedy Center Board may not put Trump’s name back on the building, “or rename the physical grounds of the arts center as the ‘President Donald J. Trump Plaza’...without Congress’s blessing.” Shortly thereafter, however, the board met and voted to close the center, prompting Trump to threaten to tear it down if his name remains off it, saying on Wednesday, “I think that the Trump administration should certainly have recognition. Because frankly, if we don’t do that, it’s going to close. It’ll end up being ripped down.” According to PBS News, on Thursday a federal court ordered the Kennedy Center “to provide 30 days’ notice before making any major physical changes to the building, including demolishing it as President Donald Trump has threatened.”

Continued hostilities in the Middle East, as Donald Trump’s war in Iran approaches the seven month mark, has caused the price of gas to surge in the U.S. Late last week, diesel fuel topped $6 a gallon for the first time ever. According to AAA’s gas price tracker, today the national average price of diesel fuel is $6.45 per gallon, while the national average price of regular gas is $4.47 per gallon.
