Greetings all. Excited to share a new discussion I hosted earlier today with Sherrod Brown, who is in a very strong position to flip the Ohio Senate seat currently held by Jon Husted. This is an important and timely conversation for it’s clear that as the national map has deteriorated for Senate Republicans they’ve decided to make a stand in Ohio and will end up spending close to $300 million in Ohio this year!
The good news is that the early vote in Ohio is off to a very promising start. Here’s what we are seeing from TargetEarly:
Overall turnout up for 2022
2022 Even | 2026 D+14
In our talk Sherrod talks about how hard they are working to drive the early vote. Here is some of what he told us:
I was with the member of Congress, Shontel Brown, from the East Side of Cleveland. We're in Cleveland right now. I just spoke at a union hall a minute ago with about 300 people. And Shontel I was with about a week before the early vote started. Probably late September in the basement of a very prominent church –– she said that her goal is 2,500 people in the early vote on day one in Cleveland alone. We have blown past that.
And we're seeing that in Columbus. We're seeing it in the big metropolitan areas with large Black populations. But we're seeing it all kinds of places, even in Republican counties. And it's our side that's voting early. Doesn't mean their side won't vote. But the enthusiasm, this is what's so important. Simon, I know you've made this case. Enthusiasm is on our side, and unfortunately, it wasn't two years ago. This time it’s on our side. Their side is disappointed, discouraged and betrayed. So many voted for Trump in those rural areas, 70+ percent. But they voted for him partly because he wasn't going to start a war. They voted for him because he was going to bring prices down, he promised. And the exact opposites happened.
Here’s the latest independent polling in Ohio. It’s encouraging:
There are two ways to support Sherrod Brown and the good Democrats of Ohoi survive the onslaught:

When I say come to
[SherrodBrown.com]–– a lot of that is our GOTV effort. And we are working. When people are helping Amy [Acton], it helps me. When people are helping me, it helps our state rep candidates. We're going to win a lot of races. We're going to build a better farm team in Ohio than we've had for some time because of gerrymandering, so many things that Republicans have done to sort of lock in their power. We're going to bust it open this year. And begin to build a more competitive state, which is good for everybody, that cares about our democracy and cares about people having opportunity of all strikes.
Here’s a new ad from Sherrod’s campaign and the DSCC:

From SherrodBrown.com:
Sherrod Brown has always been a relentless fighter for the people of Ohio.
Born and raised in Mansfield, Sherrod saw firsthand how corporations lobbied for tax breaks and bad trade agreements that shipped Ohio jobs overseas. That’s why he’s always opposed unfair trade deals that hurt Ohio workers.
A tireless advocate in standing up for the dignity of work, Sherrod has never stopped fighting for Ohio families and workers across the country–and time and again he’s delivered results.
When Wall Street banks gambled away workers’ hard-earned pensions, Sherrod led the charge to make sure over 100,000 Ohioans got the retirement they were owed.
When the drug companies jacked up prices, Brown successfully fought to cap the cost of insulin and reduce the price of other prescription drugs for Ohio seniors.
When millions of veterans returning from war who were exposed to highly toxic burn pits were being turned away by the VA as they suffered from severe illnesses like cancer and lung disease, Sherrod worked with Republicans to get them the care they deserved.
And because of Sherrod Brown, over 2 million former teachers, bus drivers, police officers, firefighters, and other workers are now receiving their full Social Security payments that previously were withheld by the federal government.
Called “a champion for workers and the middle class” who “has advocated for Ohio and for ordinary people,” Sherrod Brown “has fought for affordable health care, fair wages, worker pensions and consumer protections.”
Sherrod believes too many people think of politics as left or right, and to him it’s all about whose side you’re on, and who you are fighting for.
With all the craziness coming out of Washington, including giving massive tax breaks to corporations and billionaires at the expense of hardworking Ohioans, Sherrod knows he has the ability to do something about it, and that’s why he’s running for Senate.
Sherrod lives in Columbus with his wife Connie Schultz, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and author. Sherrod and Connie drive Jeeps made by union workers in Toledo, and are blessed with a growing family, including three daughters, a son, eight grandchildren, and their beloved rescue dogs, Franklin and Walter.
