Good morning.
Tether has turned dollar demand from emerging markets into one of the most profitable balance sheets in finance, but it now runs a sovereign-sized Treasury portfolio on the disclosure standards of a private company, and the next rate cut will show how much of that strength is structural.

HEADLINE
**State of play: **Tether now holds more US Treasuries than the UAE and almost as many as South Korea, yet the issuer of a stablecoin used by 700M people still hasn’t made its first KPMG audit public, a gap that looks wider as its balance sheet reaches sovereign scale.
BDO’s attestation shows $191.5B in assets against $183.5B in liabilities, leaving a $7.95B surplus, nearly double the $4.1B reported in June.
Treasury bills make up $132.4B of assets, compared with $134.2B held by South Korea and $116.1B by the UAE.
Q3 operating profit hit $1.5B and nine-month profit reached $4.5B, mostly from T-bill and reverse repo income.
Tether’s bitcoin reserves rose to $8.37B from about $5.8B in June, making BTC prices a growing factor in its surplus.
USDT holds about 60% of the $297.3B stablecoin market, with most of its user growth in emerging markets.
**What’s Next: **Pressure will build on Tether to publish its KPMG audit, especially as US stablecoin rules raise transparency expectations.
**Why it Matters: **A private issuer holding sovereign-scale Treasuries now matters to US debt markets, not just to crypto.
**Our Take: **Tether’s profits are really a bet on interest rates, and a growing share of its surplus is bitcoin. Rate cuts and a BTC drawdown together could shrink the buffer much faster than it grew.
