Posed as a means of “removing barriers to renewable energy development”, the BAAJA makes sweeping changes that weaken the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, and many others, which are all critically important pieces of legislation that protect our lands and waters and all who depend on them to survive, which is crucial in creating healthy futures that are more resilient to the impacts of anthropogenic climate change.
While it promises to expand renewable energy infrastructure, BAAJA also allows industry to fast-tracks AI Data Centres and Fossil Fuel Projects through the removal of these safeguards at a time when the Trump administration is also racing to open up public lands and waters to private development. If passed, this bill puts public lands at greater risk of extraction and development, weakens protections for water and wildlife, cuts the public out of decisions and projects on public lands while expediting timelines, and ultimately prioritizes corporate interests over public ones.
In other words, this bill that was introduced with good intentions has been hijacked by big tech, big oil and big money to reduce environmental protections and further their disingenuous, money-hungry world-ending agenda that serves them and their selfish greed alone, while further jeopardizing our shared futures.
With an upcoming Senate vote on BAAJA on Nov 9, it’s incredibly important that we all contact our representatives and prevent this bill from passing. Take a moment to use
