Greg is the Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics at Harvard University and former Chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers. Greg studied economics at Princeton before heading to MIT to earn his PhD. Greg is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the Econometrica Society, a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an adviser to the Congressional Budget Office, and an adviser to the Federal Reserve Banks of Boston and New York. Greg's written seminal articles on macroeconomics, finance, fiscal policy, consumer behavior, price adjustment, and economic growth. Greg also routinely writes for the The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal and other leading media outlets. Most older generations learned basic economics from Paul Samuelson's introductory textbook. But Mankiw's Principles of Economics, which has sold over 2 million copies, has replaced Samuelson as the go-to-text for acquainting newbies about the dismal science. Mankiw's intermediate text, Macroeconomics, is also extremely popular. This fascinating podcast is part of a Boston University Department of Economics series called Conversations with Economists. As you'll hear, Greg and I cover the entire gamut of current economic issues, global and domestic. We also briefly discuss the future of the Republican party, which Greg publicly left in 2019.
