Good morning and welcome to Vittles. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, Issue 3 of our print magazine is still available. Please consider buying a copy to support our work.
The past eighteen months have been the busiest of our nearly seven (!) years as a publication. We have released three issues of our print magazine, published our first book, started a podcast, hosted a series of sold-out events in London and co-organised a food-in-print fair with Fatboy and Pit magazines. This is, apparently, what business people call ‘diversification’.
At its core though, *Vittles *is still an online magazine. As we continue to publish more in print, we have the opportunity to do something different with the newsletter, to think about new approaches or new types of pieces, ensuring that every piece that hits your inbox is worth the time it takes to read during a busy day.
With that in mind, today we are sharing our first ever reader surveys – one for free subscribers and one for paid subscribers – to get a sense of the type of articles you want to see more of. Maybe you want more long-form investigative journalism, or maybe you wish that we engaged more quickly with the current news and opinion cycle. Maybe what you want is in-depth restaurant reviews, or guides and maps to help you eat out, or perhaps you respond most to memoir and personal or discursive essays, pieces without a particular ‘function’. Maybe you think we publish too much – or not enough. Whatever you think, we want to know. All responses – even critical ones – will be very warmly received.
The surveys will be open until 15 October and should take around five minutes to complete. As an incentive, the first 300 respondents will be given a free one-month subscription. If you are a paid subscriber, this will add one month onto the length of your current subscription. Note: although the survey itself is anonymous, if you wish to access the one-month free subscription, you will need to share your email address with us.
Thank you!
