Outgoing Rep. Thomas Massie filed a discharge petition seeking a House vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act II, which would strengthen enforcement of the existing disclosure law. Massie says DOJ is illegally withholding more than 3 million records; DOJ disputes that characterization.
The bill could provide state and local prosecutors with records needed to investigate or prosecute suspected crimes connected to Epstein.
**The push:**The petition has dozens of signatures, and Massie is working to gain bipartisan support. He also claims Speaker Mike Johnson may recess the House until after the midterms to avoid a vote, echoing past delays. Massie, who lost his primary, leaves office when his term ends in January 2027.
President Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” and navigation apps split over whether to follow. MapQuest publicly refused, Apple Maps adopted the new name, and Google showed different names by country.
The divide turned which map app you use into a political statement and revived a dormant brand: MapQuest recorded about 80,000 U.S. and Canadian iOS downloads on Sunday, up from roughly 500 a day, briefly topping U.S. App Store charts.
**The backlash:**Some conservatives, including commentator Matt Walsh, called the renaming pointless, and Joe Rogan said it distracts from the U.S.-Iran war. The White House had reportedly asked Apple to make the change.

New York City Public Schools announced what it calls the nation’s most expansive student-facing AI moratorium, barring pre-K through eighth-grade students from using AI for the coming school year. The policy affects about 600,000 kids.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani argued young students need human connection and problem-solving over corporate AI tools, citing a lack of independent evidence that AI helps early learners.
**The details:**One-to-one devices will be restricted through second grade, with screen-time caps through eighth grade, while companion chatbots will be banned. High schoolers will get twice-yearly AI-literacy lessons, with vetted tools tested in limited pilots and exceptions for disabilities, multilingual learners and specialized programs.
