Homeland Security Investigations agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s D.C.-area home. The Justice Department confirmed it executed a court-approved warrant as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, but didn’t say whether Omar is the subject.
The New York Times reported that the warrant lists possible immigration crimes, including fraud and false statements. Investigators are reportedly examining whether Omar's father, who filed her childhood paperwork, was eligible for citizenship. Omar denies wrongdoing and calls the search political intimidation.
**The timing:**The midterms, where Omar is on the ballot, are three weeks away. DOJ policy generally discourages public steps in political cases within 60 days of an election, though it isn't a strict ban.

Elon Musk has spent $276 million backing Republicans since July, bringing his midterm total above $360 million, according to The New York Times. That tops his 2024 spending and makes him the cycle's largest known donor.
Musk said last year he planned to spend far less on politics. Many on the right see his money as a lifeline. Democrats plan to make it a campaign issue, pointing to an AP poll showing only about a third of adults view Musk favorably.
The money:$158 million went to the main super PAC defending the GOP Senate majority. Since September, Republicans have booked more than $700 million in congressional ads versus Democrats’ $430 million.

Today’s Poll:Megadonor MathElon Musk has spent more than $360 million on the midterms, making him the cycle's largest known donor. Supporters say his money gives Republicans a crucial financial edge, while critics argue his unpopularity could make it a liability.
Will Musk’s midterm spending help or hurt Republicans in November?
President Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine agreed to an energy ceasefire, with both sides halting strikes on each other's power grids. Trump reportedly never discussed the deal with Ukraine.
Trump also agreed to a deal to lift sanctions and buy Russian diesel to lower U.S. gas prices before the midterms, which conflicts with a 2022 ban on Russian fuel imports. Ukraine objects that the purchases would help fund Russia’s war effort.
**The fallout:**Russia kept striking Ukrainian energy targets, stalling the deal. Trump said Ukraine needs a leader who can reach agreements. Zelensky replied that Ukraine would hold elections if Trump can guarantee a 60-day total ceasefire first.

TODAY’S QUIZ ANSWER:
Greenwich, England
Delegates at the International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C., voted 22-1 to make the line through Greenwich's Royal Observatory zero degrees longitude. Before that, mapmakers used competing zero points in Paris, Berlin, Washington, and elsewhere. France, Britain's longtime rival, didn't adopt Greenwich as the start of the universal day until 1911.
