President Trump has suggested the U.S. could escalate its nearly eight-month war with Iran after the midterms, saying he is weighing a deal or finishing the fight. Two U.S. officials told CNN that forces could launch major new operations within 96 hours of an order.
Reported targets include Iranian energy, military, and nuclear sites, and Iran is reportedly preparing to retaliate against Israel and the UAE. Experts warn escalation could also raise energy prices.

Israelis voted in their first national election since the October 7, 2023 attacks, with turnout reaching its highest level in decades and tens of thousands reportedly flying in from abroad.
Netanyahu warned supporters that the Jewish state’s future was at stake, while the opposition described the election as a test of Israel’s democracy. Former military chief Gadi Eisenkot leads the centrist Yashar party. He opposes Palestinian statehood and takes a hawkish approach to security, while presenting a more reserved contrast to Netanyahu.
**What’s next:**Exit polls Tuesday night showed no clear winner. No party has ever won a Knesset majority on its own, so forming a government usually involves coalition talks that can last weeks. Smaller parties may play a decisive role.

FBI agents searched the Beverly Hills home of billionaire developer Stephen Cloobeck as part of an investigation connected to former Rep. Eric Swalwell. Cloobeck gave more than $1 million to support Swalwell’s run for governor and hosted him at his home.
Swalwell resigned and left the race in April amid sexual assault and misconduct allegations, which he has denied. Cloobeck cut ties with him at the time, saying he supports women.
**The investigation:**The FBI said no arrests were planned and the warrant affidavit remains sealed. Agents searched Swalwell’s Washington home in August and seized his devices. Cloobeck has not commented publicly.
