After a brief respite, Brazil teeters on the brink of a full-blown return to a far-right, Bolsonaro kleptocracy. Argentina is already a second home for supervillain, white nationalist Peter Thiel, who groomed JD Vance to become the VP of the United States. Bukele, the worst Palestinian on Earth, is the Crypto-in-Chief of El Salvador, and under Kast’s leadership, Chile embarks on its far-right march as well.
Over in Europe, right-wing, pro-white nationalist parties surge in Germany, Austria, France, and the UK. Many of these political parties, such as the AfD, turn around and thank their ally, Elon Musk, a billionaire who spent millions to elect Trump and is now tasked with helping oversee the future of American warfare. Conflict of interest? Pfft. Don’t worry about it. The broligarchs know what’s best for us, and a few eggs must be broken to make an omelet.
In America, Trump has unleashed ICE agents to terrorize communities and started a war with Israel against Iran, which has destabilized economies and increased the price of groceries, gas, and diesel. As you struggle to pay your bills, Trump and his rich friends make billions off of crypto, side deals, and insider trading. Resistance is futile. Nothing can be done. You can’t even use the correct words to describe your reality. A genocide becomes a conflict, and a racist now has racial flare-ups.
Then again, maybe a dystopia isn’t inevitable. Perhaps there is a better story centered around humanity and community that fights back against apathy, greed, and disaster capitalism. We’re seeing seeds of such ideas flourish all across the globe.
