The latest NYT/Sienna poll dropped out today with excellent news for Democrats ahead of the midterms. However, if you dig deeper, some warning signs for the Democratic Establishment emerge as its leaders and donors continue to punch their left.
According to the numbers, Democrats should easily take back the House and the Senate, and perhaps even win in red states such as Texas. Trump’s numbers remain absolutely abysmal across the board, especially with Latinos, young voters, and Independents. Those numbers will drop as gas and grocery prices continue to rise.
Democrats are up double digits on health care and the deficit, but if you look closely, they’re only up 7 on the economy. Also, Republicans currently lead them by two points when it comes to the party Americans trust to regulate AI.
Uh, what?
Democrats should be running laps around the GOP’s failed economic policies, but they aren’t because the donors and leadership continue taking money from AI, Crypto, and AIPAC. For example, Schumer’s daughter just announced she’s working for OpenAI. Also, Politico reported that even though AI is now a major issue that can help Democrats, they won’t campaign on it down the stretch, because, of course. They aren’t championing Medicare For All, offering details on affordability, or actively supporting progressives, such as Zohran Mamdani, who are increasingly popular.
Speaking of Mamdani, he’s +5 nationally and gaining support. The brown-skinned, immigrant, Muslim American who ran as a Democratic Socialist is winning over voters because he’s embraced a progressive economic agenda that takes on the billionaires. He’s using his power to get shit done without worrying about “focus groups.” He isn’t tearing any marginalized community down to win polls, but instead has a bottom vs. top message that is resonating across the country.
Why won’t Democrats simply rinse and repeat it? We know why. Rather, we know the donors.
