For those not following the intricacies of American politics, there’s currently an internecine war in the Democratic Party.
It’s been happening for a while, but people haven’t noticed because they’ve been hijacked by the legitimate fear of a fascist MAGA movement that seeks to annihilate what remains of our democracy and administrative state. The war is between the Democratic establishment, including its corporate and Republican allies, and the majority of Americans who desperately need progressive reform and change.
These Democrats include the current leadership, their funders, and Never Trump allies, such as The Bulwark’s Sarah Longwell, who made her career at supervillain Rick Berman’s PR company. They have spent the past six months weaponizing Hasan Piker to bash progressives, including Abdul El Sayed and Zohran Mamdani. They gave the genius advice to run to the “center” and abandon pro-Palestinian activists in the 2024 election. As a result of their political strategic brilliance, they have lost the House, the Senate, the White House, the Supreme Court, and the media.
Nonetheless, they persist like the Terminator - without shame, remorse, guilt, or introspection.
▶Recently, progressive commentator and host of The Majority Report Sam Seder called out these folks as agents committed to crushing the left. Commentator Dave Sirota echoed the point and said they are trying to capture the Democratic Party and make it Republican-lite. I’ve been saying this for ages on The Left Hook, but I can easily be dismissed as some crazy Muslim brown dude. Sam has weight, and now they’re feeling the pressure.
I invited Sam to discuss why this is a good and necessary fight for both the short term and long term. If Democrats win the House and Senate, which seems likely, these corporate Dems will say, “See? Our strategy of milquetoast centrism is the way forward! We should be in charge! Give us your money.” This will lead to a “moderate” Democrat most likely being nominated and winning in 2028 due to Trump’s numerous failures. Inevitably, this will lead to our first Nazi president in 2032.
