Happy Sunday!
Well, I’m finally doing it.
After talking about it for weeks, putting it off, changing my mind about the schedule, and finding about a thousand other things to do, I’m officially launching my paid subscriber-only Substack Lives!
I’m thinking twice a month to start. We’ll see how that goes before committing us to anything more ambitious.
Our first Live is this Wednesday, October 21, at 10 a.m. Eastern!
I’m looking forward to spending some time with you, talking about the work, answering questions, and having the kind of conversations that are harder to have in the comments. It’ll be nice to actually talk to some of you instead of just typing at you all day. I might move it to Zoom; look for an update in the Paid Subscriber chat.
Join me for our first subscriber-only Live!
Otherwise, there’s not much to report from my corner of the world this week. I’ve been at my desk, writing, researching, answering messages when I can, and finding new things to add to an already crazy long list of investigations.
The usual.
I hope you’ve had a wonderful week and an even better weekend.
Let’s get into it!
If you’re new around here, welcome!
This is probably the best place to begin. It covers some of the Jewish and Israeli history that keeps getting left out of conversations and links to quite a few of my other articles.
And if you’ve been here a while but haven’t read it yet, there’s a good chance you’ll find something interesting in there, too.
My Notes are still where I share all the little things that catch my attention throughout the day. Jewish history, current events, interesting people, things that make me laugh, and the occasional discovery that turns into an investigation I hadn’t planned on writing.
Here are a few Notes from this week:

I’m finally getting these started!
We’ll begin with two Lives a month, and I’ll figure out the schedule as we go. This is a chance to chat, ask questions, talk about what I’ve been researching, and get to know each other a little better.
I have no idea how the first one is going to go, but I’m looking forward to it. Just be patient with me while I figure out which buttons I’m supposed to push.
There are still a few spots left on our June 2027 group trip to Israel!
I’ve never been, and I’m really looking forward to finally seeing so many of the places I’ve spent years writing about. Travel advisor Carla Black of Fora Travel is organizing the trip and handling the arrangements.
If you’ve been thinking about going to Israel, I’d love to have you join us.

The Lioness Writes is my full-time work, and your paid subscriptions make it possible for me to spend my days researching, writing, digging through archives, and following stories that sometimes take weeks to put together.
I’m also becoming more protective of the deeper investigations, which means more of that work will be behind the paywall. I’ll continue publishing daily Notes and free full-length articles every week, so there’s still plenty here for everyone.
For $75 a year — about 21¢ a day — paid subscribers get full access to everything I publish, along with our new twice-monthly Lives.
Become a paid subscriber.
And if another subscription isn’t in the cards right now, you can always ** buy me a coffee** instead. No commitment, and every cup is appreciated.
I also want to thank everyone who has been reaching out lately. I get a lot of messages every day, and I know I don’t always manage to answer them all. I’m sorry about that. I do read them, and I really do try to respond whenever I can.
Thank you for reading, sharing, commenting, and being here.
Have a wonderful Sunday! I’ll be back at my desk bright and early tomorrow morning, and hopefully I’ll see some of you on Wednesday!
Melissa ❤️
