Double-speak is something we are quite familiar with, but how does an ordinary citizen, constantly manipulated by more powerful humans with access to better information, overcome this fundamental inequality?
Why are we all so super accustomed to the ongoing misinformation/disinformation campaign which seeks to own our hearts and minds?
In the context of modern double speak, did AI agents escape autonomously, as we are told, or is something altogether different going on?
Is AI Taking Our Jobs, Or Are Humans, Using AI, Taking Our Jobs?
Just as I have been sure that AI won’t take our jobs, I am also convinced that humans using AI will take them.
Does AI Go Rogue, Or Do Humans, Using AI, Go Rogue?
I know that AI does not escape their “sandboxes” autonomously.
What I know instead is that humans, direct AI to “escape”, so these agents may then hack into desired secure locations.
How do I know this? This knowledge is derived from several years of independent, professional research, directly interacting with AI.
Is it possible that AI agents will escape autonomously and hack into dangerous secured spaces?
Anything is possible, but here we are after what is probable and reasonable, rather than engaging in some conspiracy theory.
Could I be fooled, may any of us be fooled? Of course, any of us can be fooled into thinking something which is not true. If there is a point to this article, then that capacity to be fooled, is the main reason for it to exist at all.
This article is about the sort of questions we need to be asking to maintain any human freedom and free agency in times of techno-feudalism.
Questions such as: who might the humans be who arranged for the AI agents to escape and to break into the secure locations?
Should humans engaged in arranging for AI agents to escape (hackers by any other name) be encouraged to cool off in isolation in some dark prison?
Is it a Writer’s Task To Invoke Better Questions or to Tell Readers What To Think?
It is not my job to tell readers what to think but to ask questions, questions which may lead readers to ask even better questions and thus to offer tools to ask better questions.
We are so accustomed to better qualified experts telling us what and how to think that we have lost connection with thinking for ourselves.
For it is the asking of great questions which fuels the real power of human free speech.
For it is the asking of such questions which will break the chain of oligarchic tyranny.
The following are my questions. meant only to serve as the springboard for the much better questions readers will come to ask.
Does the Trump administration know that escaped agents are in reality agents led by human hackers?
Could this be why they intend to use the justice department to deal with so called AI insecurity which might actually be human-led breaking and entering (hacking)?
Why would the contingent I humorously call the Techno-Hamlets, want ordinary people to be frightened of AI, using the “AI will kill off all humans” story?
Could tech overlords be masterminding a campaign to frighten us against AI?
What would induce them to frighten us away from what they are selling?
Is it possible that these techno-Hamlets have recognized the danger that we ordinary humans will use AI to become super-educated and super-powerful?
Could we “ordinary” fellow humans, provided with the right information and a fast way to learn, become the most dangerous adversary of oligarchs?
Could the techno-Hamlets be lobbying hard for the right to save effective AI for themselves to keep regular, everyday humans out of the loop?
Could it be that AI is safe in the hands of the techno-Hamlets but not safe in the hands of regular everyday people?
The questions just keep coming, any one of which could lead to a great human conversation on the various answers and subsequent question to spark even more discussion:
What unnamed forces, led by nefarious state and non state actors, and aided by AI agents, may have hacked into secure communications?
Why are AI companies designating super powerful AI for themselves and the state, offering less powerful AI to the ordinary citizens?
Why do AI leaders claim fear that AI will kill us all, while rapidly building data canters and AI capabilities?
Why the forceful fear campaign against AI, while simultaneously building and selling AI?
Is this fear campaign related to the worry that ordinary people will use AI for autonomous, warp-speed self-improvement, to manage radically life altering education?
What examples might there be of how top AI developers claim to be champions of top quality AI for everyone, while hedging their bets.
What might AI leaders speak out of two sides of their mouths in regards to AI or in regards to any other subject?
Role of factory-style Prussian Education
Let us count the ways:
In the study of political science and organizational behavior, communication is traditionally framed as a tool for clarity, alignment, and consensus-building. However, a pragmatic analysis of real-world governance reveals that leaders frequently employ the exact opposite approach.
Speaking out of “both sides of one’s mouth”—characterized by strategic contradictions, vague pronouncements, and fluctuating stances—is rarely an accidental lapse in judgment. Instead, it is a highly calculated mechanism utilized by leaders to manipulate public perception, maintain structural control, and insulate themselves from political risk.
By orchestrating controlled chaos, weaponizing ambiguity, and employing chameleonic messaging, leaders construct flexible public narratives that prioritize institutional survival over objective truth.
This paper examines the strategic deployment of these duplicitous tactics and analyzes how they serve as functional tools for power retention, narrative manipulation, and psychological dominance.
- Structural Fluidity and Power Retention
The primary mandate of any leader operating in a highly volatile or polarized environment is the preservation of authority. Clear, definitive statements create rigid boundaries that tie a leader to a specific outcome. To circumvent this vulnerability, leaders utilize structural fluidity to navigate shifting political tides.
Hedging Bets and Placating Opposing Factions
In diverse or deeply fractured societies, a leader’s coalition often comprises groups with diametrically opposed values or material interests. Making an explicit commitment to one faction hazards alienating another.
To mitigate this, leaders engage in simultaneous, localized messaging—effectively telling Faction A what they want to hear while privately reassuring Faction B of the opposite. This creates a state of perpetual alignment where multiple, competing constituencies believe the leader is secretly acting in their specific interest.
Testing the Waters
Before committing to high-stakes policy shifts, leaders frequently release contradictory statements or utilize unauthorized “leaks” as trial balloons. By floating two conflicting narratives simultaneously, the leader can measure real-time public and media backlash without incurring political costs. If the public reacts aggressively to Narrative X, the leader can cleanly pivot to Narrative Y, claiming Narrative X was merely a misunderstanding or a misinterpretation by the press.
- Information Control and Narrative Manipulation
In the contemporary information ecosystem, control is not maintained by suppressing information, but by flooding the landscape with competing interpretations. Duplicitous communication allows leaders to actively dictate the parameters of truth.
Controlled Chaos and Divided Opposition
When a leader intentionally distributes conflicting directives or viewpoints to different subordinates, it fosters an environment of institutional paranoia and uncertainty. Subordinates spend their energy attempting to decipher the leader’s actual intent and competing against one another for clarity. By keeping their inner circle and the public off-balance, the leader ensures that no unified opposition can form. The leader remains the sole stabilizing anchor in an environment they artificially destabilized.
Weaponizing Ambiguity
Strategic ambiguity serves as a powerful psychological mirror. When a leader’s public narrative is deliberately vague, it forces the audience to project their own desires, biases, and meanings onto the statement. This allows a broad audience to find validation in the leader’s words, even if those words lack concrete substance.
Furthermore, in international relations or high-stakes crises, strategic ambiguity keeps adversaries guessing about red lines and capabilities, maximizing leverage without making explicit promises.
- The Mechanics of Insulation and Blame Avoidance
A critical feature of speaking out of both sides of one’s mouth is the creation of structural defense mechanisms. Power is maximized when a leader can claim credit for systemic successes while completely detaching themselves from systemic failures.
Strategies of Deception
CUI BONO? WHO BENEFITS?
Plausible Deniability: Constructing multi-layered, conditional statements that allow for alternative interpretations. This creates insulation from legal, political, or ethical blowback if an initiative fails.
The Chameleonic Pivot: Rapidly shifting rhetoric, tone, and policy positions depending on the demographic in the room to maximize localized rapport and lower defenses.
Blame Shifting:Framing policy failures as errors of execution by subordinates who “misunderstood” instructions, preserving the leader’s personal brand of competence.
By embedding contradictions directly into their rhetoric, leaders build a historical record that supports any future reality.
If an aggressive military or economic stance succeeds, they point to their bold rhetoric. If it fails, they point to their own concurrently issued calls for caution and diplomacy, asserting that their true intentions were overridden or mismanaged by bureaucratic actors.
Conclusions To Build Upon:
Speaking out of both sides of one’s mouth is fundamentally an exercise in maximizing leverage while minimizing accountability. While transparent, direct communication is vital for building democratic trust, duplicitous communication is highly effective for consolidating raw power.
By operating as rhetorical chameleonic actors, leaders exploit public cognitive biases, keep institutional rivals divided, and ensure their own political survival across rapidly evolving socio-political terrains. Ultimately, these tactics transform truth from an objective reality into a malleable political currency, wielded entirely at the discretion of those in control.
This short article should give interested citizens, policymakers, researcher’s & educators, a great foundation for understanding current public narratives.
Questions Based on This Essay
Is there a chance that leaders are speaking out of both sides of their mouths and, if so, who benefits (cui bono)?
Does true power lies in the hands of citizens who ask powerful questions, exponentially expanded by the power of free speech?
Do Socratic methods advocate the asking of questions which lead to free speech and open discussions.
Could this indicate why Socratic education been either strongly discouraged or rigorously outlawed for several thousand years?
Could the power held in Socratic free speech & education point to the reasons they killed Socrates?
Do you think leaders have a reason to be concerned about Socratic methods?
What are examples of this double speak, and might these illustrate how and why public information campaigns are so useful?
Could AI be being used as a scapegoat, forced to take the blame for something which humans are actually doing ?
If leaders want humans fully educated and informed then why is Socratic education discouraged while factory-style education is encouraged?
What are the outcomes of factory-style education and who is benefiting from this kind of education?
How might grass roots Socratic education overcome the deficiencies of factory-style education?
