The phenomenon refers to attempts to silence or bury a story that ironically result in the story going viral and gaining more attention. Had pro-Israel hawks and genocide deniers simply allowed Macklemore to use his opening act to say, “Free Palestine,” it would have made a blip in the news. Instead, they used their power to kick him off the Sheeran tour. For his part, Sheeran released a weak, mushy-mouthed, nonsense “both sides” post. Meanwhile, his own touring band and opening acts quit the tour in solidarity with Macklemore and called out Israel’s ongoing occupation and genocide of Palestinians.

We are witnessing a massive culture shift reminiscent of the 1980s when young people and global artists used their platforms to protest South Africa’s system of apartheid. Kraft, a billionaire who has given millions to Israel and supports Trump, tried to put his thumb on the scale but instead has activated a multiracial majority that is refusing to be bullied into silence.
Earlier today, Matthew Lillard, co-star of the Scream franchise, apologized for not standing in solidarity with actress Melissa Barrera, who was fired over two years ago for opposing Israel’s genocide. Filmmakers and artists are also supporting two Israeli journalists whose documentary, NAZA, reveals Israel’s deliberate strategy to kill Palestinian civilians.
I never thought I’d witness something like this in my lifetime.
Instead of reading the room, Donald Trump is trying to send $2.8 billion in weapons, paid by taxpayer dollars, to Israel to continue its war crimes. Democrats placed pro-Israel hawks on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and continue taking money from AIPAC, funded by pro-Trump right-wing billionaires. The war in Iran escalates and has now caused a record-high price in Diesel fuel.
How much more are Americans willing to take for the whims of billionaires, Israel, war-mongers, and the Epstein Class?
