Dr. Debra Shushan is doing the Lord’s work in Michigan. She recently traveled to the battleground state to knock on doors and persuade Jewish Democrats to back Abdul El-Sayed.
The $60 million campaign failed to sink El-Sayed in the primary, but pro-Israel donors, MAGA Republicans, and some in the Democratic Establishment have been relentless in their efforts to smear and undermine the first potential Muslim American Senator.
Their chosen candidate, Haley “I see Israel in my dreams” Stevens, has repeatedly shown why she “sucks,” according to Shusan. Just look at her appearance on cable news over the past week. First, she refused to support El-Sayed by name. Then, when it was revealed her fiancé is supporting Republicans, she went on CNN and instead of condemning the vile Islamophobic attacks against El-Sayed, she demanded he condemn an ad that his campaign didn’t produce or support.
With Democrats like these, who needs bad-faith Republicans?
Sadly, this race reveals the extent to which some Democratic leaders and donors remain at odds with their base when it comes to Israel, which has become a litmus test issue. This elephant can’t be ignored even if Democrats win in next week’s midterm elections.
Abroad, the world is awaiting to see what coalition emerges from the contentious Israeli elections, which saw the Arab Party garner a record 19 votes. Sadly, Netanyahu still has a narrow path to power. If his rivals win, will anything change?
