A new report found the Trump regime has cut at least $2 billion in federal funding Connecticut was supposed to receive this year
Health programs, disaster relief, food assistance and environmental programs took the largest losses, affecting towns, nonprofits and state agencies across Connecticut
Connecticut joined a multistate lawsuit challenging conditions the Trump regime attached to federal funding
This year, Donald Trump has cut at least $2 billion in federal funding that Connecticut was supposed to receive, according to a new report by The Lost Funds Project, which tracks federal funding disruptions and their impacts in each state.
The largest cuts have been:
$570 million to Connecticut health programs, including $281 million less for infectious disease control and $262 million less for heath organizations;
$323 million less in Connecticut disaster relief;
$308 million less for Connecticut food and nutrition, including $298 million less in SNAP (food stamps) funding;
$258 million less for Connecticut environmental programs such as pollution reduction and rooftop solar installations.
The lost funds affected 45 Connecticut town and city governments, 39 nonprofits, 20 state agencies and 71 other recipients, according to the report.
Connecticut is one of 26 states suing the Trump administration regarding these cuts, according to the Connecticut Mirror. In July, The Mirror said, Connecticut joined a lawsuit claiming “unlawful conditions” on conditions attached to federal funds used for disaster preparation and response.
Of the 26 states in the lawsuit, all but one voted for Kamala Harris for president in 2024 or had a Democratic governor.
“Once again, Donald Trump is playing politics with disaster relief. He cannot hold billions of dollars in funding hostage to force states to carry out his political agenda. This is not how our Constitution works, and not how federal grants work. We stopped similar illegal threats in court twice before, and we’re going to do it again,” Attorney General Tong said in July.
Trump routinely denies requests for disaster relief fund requests from Blue Democratic states, according to a news story by Politico.
Trump has also stated that he has denied federal research grants to Democratic states that did not vote for him for president.
