Morning all. The proud, plucky patriots of this remarkable, hard working community got together last night for our weekly look at our battle against MAGA and for freedom and democracy, here and everywhere. Here's is some of what we discussed…….
Trump’s failed and extremist regime continues to make things worse for America, the American people, and for their rancid, illiberal political project.
Hostilities have returned to the Middle East. The war has widened as the Houthis are now attacking Saudi Arabia. Iran continues to attack and destroy our military bases in the region, causing hundreds of billions of damage, striking now as far away as our bases in Jordan. Oil has spiked up to $105 a barrel today:
Global inflation has done enormous damage to consumers, businesses, and governments throughout the world. Interest rates are rising, the fiscal conditions of nations weakening everywhere. From the FT’s homepage right now:
Diesel hit an all-time high this week in the US just in time for the fall harvest, further battering farmers already reeling from higher fertilizer prices, higher energy costs, loss of markets, cuts to health care, and mass deportation. Today’s Producer Price Index report came in at 5.4% annually, almost three times the Fed’s target rate of 2%. Here is what Trump’s ruinous economic policies have done:
Trump’s horrific cuts to our health care system are showing up in higher prices and less access for all Americans, not just those on Medicaid and the ACA. Estimates now are that costs for those with private insurance plans will rise between 8% and 11% - the biggest one year jump in twenty years. This is going to further weaken American businesses and cause health care costs to rise for literally every American in the country.
The war in Russia-Ukraine is also escalating, and Russia’s attacks on civilians and the civilian infrastructure in Ukraine are growing more barbaric. The Russian and Trump aligned AfD, an extremist, far-right party, won an election in Germany. Putin’s “hybrid war” attacks on Europe/NATO are escalating, widening the war into the heart of NATO itself.
As I wrote yesterday:
the world is slowly tipping into a profound crisis as the country that held everything together for the past eighty years has now decided to tear it all apart.
Faced with all this deterioration of the global economy, our economy here at home, and Russian-Iranian aggression Trump sent his bagmen to Moscow to lick Putin’s boots, humiliate Zelenskyy, and give Russia an attaboy; praised the success of the Russia-aligned AfD creating an even deeper crisis with our European allies, and inside NATO; and dramatically escalated his trade war with Canada, adding fuel to inflation here, further weakening our alliances and the West, and he even published a map of America that included all of Canada, implicitly threatening a full on invasion of Northern neighbor in the Imperial Venezuelan model.
These historic series of failures have taken a terrible toll on Trump’s political project here at home. His polling got worse this week and hit new lows in four major polls. Consumer confidence is at a 65 year low. Peltola leads in Alaska; Brown has been up 8 in the last two Fox News polls of Ohio; Talarico leads in every poll in Texas; a new poll has Turek up in Iowa; new polls have El-Sayed and Troy Jackson up 3 in Michigan and Maine; Cooper and Ossoff have large, single digit leads. Today FiftyPlusOne puts our odds of winning the House at 94%:
And the Senate at 59%:
In the Economist/YouGov poll this week our lead in the named generic ballot was 49%-38% - 11 points, a deeply encouraging bit of data.
Yes our rapacious, addled, liar-in-chief offered a big, huge, desperate bribe last night, but I am skeptical any American will believe him. He has had his chance these last two years to do right by the American people and instead we’ve gotten abandonment, betrayal, Olympian levels of failure here and throughout the world, and unprecedented oligarchical corruption:
Finally, I talked about the need for us to lead our communities in these final two months. To be calm, steady, true, and resist distraction. We have a clear mission now:
There is nothing Trump and MAGA wants more than for us to be fighting with each other and not with him. We have one job now - elect as many of these wonderful candidates running for the House and Senate as we can. It’s where our focus must be. It’s a year of opportunity for us across the country. We must seize it, together.
Proud American patriots it is our turn now, and we must do our part for freedom and democracy here and everywhere by winning this election by as a big margin as we can. We need to keep writing our postcards, canvassing, phonebanking, protesting, info warring, and donating to candidates and party committees. We need to become Early Vote Champions in our networks, communities, and organizations; embrace the No Kings Oct 17th day of action; and sign up to become a Democracy Protector too.
And of our course, we must keep supporting our courageous candidates and hard-working party committees so we can bring a big blue wave all across the land…..
