A website presenting itself as a nonpartisan tool for checking voter registration, votesafe.org, was secretly owned and operated by Elon Musk’s America PAC, according to multiple news organizations
The site collected and shared users’ personal data, including voter registration status and preferred voting method, with undisclosed “business partners”
The revelation surfaced as the Trump regime sought new restrictions on voting by mail and after Connecticut’s attorney general beat back a federal effort to obtain the state’s voter rolls

www.votesafe.orginstead, however, which appears to be a website helping members of the public to check their registration status, their data will likely be tracked by or sold to businesses connected to Elon Musk.This is the latest news with impacts on Connecticut voters as the Trump regime seeks to
impose restrictions on voting by mail, the Associated Press reported, and Attorney General William Tongwon dismissal of a lawsuitfrom the Trump regime seeking Connecticut voter lists.That’s because multiple sources, including Popular Information and Snopes, have
confirmed Elon Musk’s America PAC owns and operates votesafe.org. The website will track personal information related to a voter, as well as their IP address and location, data regarding the technology they use and their internet activity, according to its fine print.In late August, Musk’s PAC updated the website noting votesafe.org will “share” or “sell” personal information with “business partners,” including whether a voter is registered to vote and how they prefer to submit their vote. That website in fact is taking a lot of user information, including street address, email, location and personal data, which may be used to impact or change a user’s targeted advertisements or email recipients.
As Popular Information noted, America PAC has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars promoting votesafe.org on Meta platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. Some ads appear benign, while others are politically charged, and all of them promote votesafe.org.
Snopes noted that votesafe.org’s privacy policy page cites the “
Western Creative Group,” a company that Musk’s PAC paid $20 million in 2024 to position President Trump as opposing a federal ban on abortion during his presidential campaign, despite his cabinetindicating efforts to ban it nationwide.Popular Information found votesafe.org was tied to two additional organizations, including the right-wing Heritage Foundation’s Sentinel Action Fund, which created its own registration website based off votesafe.org, and Ready to Register, an organization reportedly sending confusing, outdated or fraudulent information to voters in at least one state.
Ready to Register also has direct links to Musk’s America PAC.
