I don’t know if times used to be . . . simpler. We've always had struggles. Civil rights. Women’s rights. Equal rights.
But there WAS a time when decency mattered. When kindness mattered. When empathy and integrity, when consistency and honesty mattered.
And, for the majority of us - the vast majority - those things still matter. They guide us, they motivate us. They animate us. They propel us forward.
It’s hard to understand how those in leadership positions in the executive branch and so many of those in Congress have abandoned all of those guiding principles.
But what they are doing to the American people, what they have done to Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and so may others, what they are doing to documented immigrants, undocumented immigrants, and visitors to our nation, IS NOT SUSTAINABLE.
And the bullying, the violation of both our national and state laws, the violation of both our national and state constitutions, and the abject abandonment of kindness and decency, will not win the day.
IT WILL NOT WIN THE DAY.
Fascism will not win the day. Autocracy will not win the day. Dictatorship will not win the day.
The forces that OPPOSE fascism, dictatorship, and autocracy will win the day. Just as sure as night follows day, just as sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, just as sure as the tides will rise and fall, we will win this great struggle.
Because - now more than ever - justice matters.
