Today it feels like we defeated the scourge of White Christian Nationalism, but they are already regrouping. They did not get us to the brink of their WCN theocratic governmental wet dream by ceding to setbacks. They are already hard at work with their billionaire overlords. One election won’t make them go away.
This work matters more than ever.

Yesterday, I shared my picks for Democratic leadership: Elizabeth Warren and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Catch up if you missed it.
If you do not stop listening to your donors and washed-up consultant class and carry out the mandate we gave you, our victory will be short-lived. Because the victory isn’t what happened on Tuesday; the victory will be WHAT YOU DO WITH IT. And We the People expect A LOT.
My husband is calling our expectations “Vought the Vote.”
Vought the Vote = Take the power given to you by the passionate voters who put in place three Democratic majorities (House, Senate and State Governors) and be a ruthlessly creative bureaucrat like Russ Vought:
Since Corporate Democrats are already dragging their ghoulish selves in front of microphones and saying things like We can’t do that because we don’t control the DOJ and *We can’t make people show up when subpoenaed because we don’t have an enforcement mechanism, *allow me to read your own rules and be creative on your behalf.
You have an enforcement mechanism. It is called the Capitol Police and its Office of the Inspector General.
Here is mission of the Capitol Police: “To protect the Congress - its Members, employees, visitors and facilities - so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.”
A key element of the Capitol Police is the Office of Inspector General (OIG).
The United States Capitol Police (USCP) Office of Inspector General (OIG) was established on August 2, 2005, with the enactment of Public Law 109-55. Congress created the office to strengthen independent oversight of the USCP and to promote accountability, transparency, and integrity within the agency.
Under the law, the OIG reports directly to the Capitol Police Board, ensuring a clear line of independence in carrying out oversight responsibilities. The Capitol Police Board is made up of three members: two members elected by Congress —the Sergeant At Arms of the House and Senate— and one appointed by the President— the Architect of the Capitol. Two of three is a two-thirds majority.
A ruthlessly creative bureaucrat would consider an out-of-control Executive Branch a threat to fulfilling Congress’s constitutional and legislative responsibilities. She would find ways to deploy the Capitol Police and its OIG to arrest people who do not show up for Congressional subpoenas, for example. Even if they are nowhere near DC. Because enforcing our rule of law protects Congress, which in turn protects us.
Investigating and punishing people who break laws is not “getting even.” It is called “consequences for destroying our rule of law.”
I will not countenance another person saying we need to be cordial. Bipartisan. Let bygones be bygones. Put this behind us.
NO. NONONONONONONO.
Investigate this crowd like a mafia operation, because that’s what it is. You can question a bunch of people at one time AND gather even more evidence for impeachment proceedings.
This includes the six compromised Roberts Court justices. It means impeaching and removing every unqualified Executive Branch Department head on Day 1, as well as the layers of political appointees they have installed to transform the federal government per the Project 2025 playbook.
(Don’t tell me you can’t do that. You have a couple of months to put a case together. You already have loads of evidence. I don’t care if it means you work through the holidays. Period.)
Release the un-redacted Epstein Files, arrest every person implicated, and give the victims justice.
I do not want a single Epstein Class victim to ever be required to relive their abuses again. They should not have to beg for justice or describe what was done to them another time.
GIVE THEM JUSTICE.
I don’t care if half the Epstein Files include Democrats or burns down the whole world as we know it. This isn’t about politics or party. We want EQUAL JUSTICE to mean EQUAL JUSTICE REGARDLESS OF WHO YOU ARE OR HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE.
Deploy the Capitol Police and its OIG to make this happen if necessary. Until you get the Executive Branch in line, they are the only tool you have. But again, they ARE a tool you have.
Approve legislation to repeal the Big Ugly Bill on Day 1.
You have two-and-a-half months to get this legislation written and hash out your differences. Don’t wait until Day 1 to begin this work. Be ready to pass it and deliver for We the People on Day 1.
I don’t care if undear leader vetoes it. The best way to show the American people what vile, hideous cretins Republicans are is to MAKE THEM VOTE FOR THEIR DREADFUL POLICIES.
Make them go on the record and say Americans are not suffering an affordability crisis.
Make them choose billionaires by refusing to repeal their tax breaks.
Make them argue against Medicare for All and school lunches and functional public health.
Make them vote against restoring ACA credits while Americans are paying their first 2027 premium increase.
Make them say women and other vulnerable populations are second-class citizens who have no right to our own bodies.
Make them continue to defend their system of concentration camps and the brutal thuggery of the Department of Homeland Security, ICE, and the Border Patrol.
Make them say Social Security needs to die.
I could go on and on, but bottom line: The days of leadership deciding not to propose and approve legislation because it might not pass or could be vetoed is NOT a reason to kill bills before they come to the floor. You are there to write and pass laws that benefit We the People while you hold the other branches of government to the rule of law.
And finally…
Pass legislation that defines the separation of church and state as NO RELIGION BELONGS IN GOVERNMENT.
The United States of America is a secular country anchored in the principles of the Enlightenment.
We do not have an established religion.
Nor do we make laws drawn from any religious text.
Every citizen has a right to their own mind. No citizen can force any other citizen to follow their spiritual beliefs.
Vought the Vote.
Ruthlessly creative.
No legislative Merrick Garlands.
And I’m not done with Day 1.
I’ll have more on how Democrats can do the will of We the People tomorrow.
Also tomorrow (Friday).
I’m joining at his show History of the Present. 3pm eastern. LIVE.
Brian has challenged me to go deeper than I ever have into my White Christian Nationalist story. I hope you’ll join us, because this kind of vulnerability and reliving of trauma is hard. But helpful.
