This is one of those weeks that takes a lot out of me. I know everyone has a hand out right now. Many of you have nothing extra. While I still have fists full of trauma to fling into this space and address this moment. Because my trauma is COLLECTIVE FEMALE TRAUMA. I’m not speaking for me; I’m speaking for the FEMALE WE.

TRIGGER WARNING: This newsletter discusses sexual assault.
Every third or fourth woman you know is reliving the horrors of sexual assault and its aftermath.
Almost every woman you know is remembering being grabbed or touched or groped or cornered or cat-called or threatened.
So exhausting that I don’t have much for you today. I leave you with a brief story. I hope readers - especially the men - will read carefully and think about it.
Last week, we had a meal with one of our only friends here. A white man. From the US. Kind of oblivious. Absolutely not interested in my work or what’s happening back in the US. But a nice guy.
Toward the end, he brought up the situation with Ashley St. Clair, a former conservative influencer turned Elon Musk critic who has seemed to confirm allegations that Musk used technology to meddle in the 2024 election. After being out there for months, her story is finally gaining enough traction to penetrate with unplugged folks like him.
first covered the story at the link below:
But he didn’t bring it up to say we should look into this more or Musk is enough of an asshole to corrupt an election or as Americans, we shouldn’t stand for this.
Oh no.
He snickered and said something about not believing a source like her - former conservative influencer; Musk baby-mama; just looking for more attention.
Then he got up and went to the bathroom while I was saying I choose to believe women.
My husband, who’s still enduring lectures from me about his own blindness to white male privilege, didn’t say anything.
The moment passed. By the time our friend returned from the bathroom, it was too late for me to give him what-for.
How is it that an obscenely rich parasitic illegal immigrant Nazi misogynist racist narcissistic psychotic white man gets a pass in this situation while a woman who accuses him of multiple crimes is dismissed? Snickered at? Guilty of making stuff up? Not believed?
This is a white man who gave multiple Nazi salutes in public.
A white man who has aligned with Nazis worldwide.
A white man who has called for white supremacist policies like remigration and endorsed the great replacement conspiracy theory.
A white man who has fraudulently overstated an initial public offering to the point that he has jeopardized every 401K and pension program in the United States.
A white man who so decimated an aid program that millions of human beings will die and hundreds of thousands have already died.
A white man who engineered and oversaw the hostile takeover of our own federal government, stole our data, and is likely this very minute doing who-knows-what with it.
A white man who has phone conversations and meetings with despotic, war criminal dictators.
A white man who hates his own transgender daughter and publicly humiliates, mocks, and dead-names her.
A white man who is in the Epstein files.
The United States of America and the greater world hate women so much that a white man who is this vile, this evil, this broken, a comic book villain come to life, gets a pass on meddling in the 2024 election because a woman is his accuser.
And in our woman-hating world, SHE is suspect.
SHE is unreliable.
SHE is not to be believed.
Much like we’re already being treated to a tsunami of reasons why it was a female Cornell student’s fault she endured a gang rape.
We won’t hear a tsunami of ways at least one of the fifty-plus young men in that text stream could have stopped it. Or reported it. Or quit the fraternity over it.
Instead of asking why today’s young men are so lonely, we need to figure out what’s wrong with our society that over fifty young men see a woman being gang-raped and either drop everything to join in, sit back and watch, cheer via text, or do nothing.
Because the seven young men who participated aren’t the only broken ones. THEY ALL ARE. EVERY ONE OF THEM.
I wish I could give every woman here a hug today. Because we all need one.
