This week, Donald Trump’s war in Iran sent diesel fuel prices skyrocketing to record highs. By most measures, it’s rural Americans who will disproportionately bear the brunt of these higher fuel costs. So, it’s quite the slap in the face from a president who won 93% of rural counties in 2024.

But Trump’s betrayal of his rural base is hardly limited to soaring fuel prices.

In tomorrow’s piece, will take a look at the many harms Trump has inflicted upon his own rural voters and the backlash that is building against his policies—and how Republicans are likely to pay the price in November.

And in case you missed it, yesterday dug into the recent court wins blocking Trump’s attempt to restrict mail-in voting, but also warned that we are not out of the woods yet. Trump has shown himself to be remarkably persistent in his voter fraud claims, and we should be clear-eyed about the threats posed by Trump’s ongoing conspiracy-based assaults on our elections.
