The mid-decade redistricting wars heated up again this week. And while Republicans were widely seen as the victors in this year’s congressional map redraw, things now seem to be going Democrats’ way.
On Thursday, Missouri’s Supreme Court threw out the state GOP’s 7R-1D map, instead reviving the 6R-2D map from 2022, until voters could approve the new GOP-drawn maps by referendum.
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), whose seat had been eliminated in the redraw, cheered the decision on X.
And, assuming this decision holds, the odds of his reelection just surged.
As for Donald Trump, he’s not handling it all that well.
Also this week, the Maryland State Supreme Court greenlit Democrats’ proposed ballot initiative allowing them to redraw the state’s maps to appear on the November ballot.
If voters approve of Question 3, that would allow Maryland Democrats to move forward with mid-decade redistricting next year.
Governor Wes Moore lauded the decision.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is set to headline both nights of the GOP’s midterm convention, set for next weekend in Dallas.
But a lot of Republicans are RSVP-ing “thanks but no thanks!”
