Major media outlets are boycotting Donald Trump after he banned three outlets from the White House, in a fresh sign that the president’s power is ebbing — and he knows it.
President Donald Trump famously loves to watch himself on TV. At the same time, he doesn’t want to hear all the terrible updates about the wheels falling off his administration. Oil prices are
through the roof. The Iran war could last𝕏another six more months, at least. Artificial intelligencecould end humanity. Democrats’ odds of winning power in Novemberseem to be risingby the day.
These are terrible omens for a president with just 43 days left to change the media narrative before the midterms. If trends continue, and Democrats capture at least one chamber of Congress, Trump will begin his long-awaited descent into political wilderness. Oblivion awaits. And Trump isn’t taking it well.
The president’s waning power is already on display. The Federal Reserve just defied his demand
to lower interest rates. The Supreme Court rejected his attempt to restrict mail-in ballots. Vulnerable Republicansare backing away. And in one more twist, mainstream outlets are banding together to resist his latest dictate.
Major television networks agreed to effectively boycott the White House today, announcing that there won’t be any pool coverage of Trump as he travels to New York City, where he’ll meet with Mayor Zohran Mamdani and French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the U.N. General Assembly. CNN had been scheduled to provide pool coverage for outlets today, but Trump’s team removed them.
This unprecedented move by media outlets, a symbolic
hell no, follows a ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico reporters from entering the White House after Trump accused them of publishing “fake news.” The three outlets are now suing the Trump administration over the ban.
“Left unchallenged, this threatens press freedom and the public’s right to independent journalism free from government interference,” the outlets said in a statement. (
Thanks for starting this mess, Natalie Harp!)
Trump denied that the White House is assaulting the free press, “which I cherish.” He wrote on social media: “It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer.” Hilariously, Trump’s ban has already backfired, as evidenced by

The 80-year-old convicted felon seems to be in denial about his looming political demise.
Ahead of elections, presidents usually try to assuage voters’ concerns and minimize the damage to their own party. Trump has taken the opposite approach, doubling down on his unpopular policies.
New polling shows just how destructive his behavior has been for Republicans. Democrats have a
real shot at winningSenate races in Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Maine, New Hampshire, Alaska, Georgia and North Carolina. Some senatorseven thinkconservative strongholds like Kansas and Nebraska could be up for grabs.
What gives? Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) blamed the Trump administration for pretending like the war in Iran isn’t affecting gas prices. “People are feeling it, and they don’t like it. They don’t like it at all,” she told The Hill. “And what kind of response are we seeing from the White House? Is there a recognition that there’s a connection here? If there is, I’m not hearing anybody enunciate it.”
Indeed, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett
𝕏blamed formerPresident Joe Biden for the high prices. Trump himself has invoked Joe Biden nearly 900 times this year to deflect from his own mistakes, according to a new analysis. I’m imagining King Learwanderingout of his palace, babbling to himself,Joe Biden! Joe Biden! Joe Biden!
