I cannot say this enough, y’all. Fascists want to decimate your hope. They know hopeless people are easier to crush and control.
I’m not a fan of toxic positivity or fake joy. But I am a huge believer in finding real hope every day.
What gave me HOPE this week:
Remember when I wrote about the Spanish-speaking gay man shimmying to Frank Sinatra’s My Way during a 3 July restaurant meal?
My husband and I dined with him at his restaurant again last night. He was in the mood to practice his English, so I told him I wrote about his love of American crooners. (Something I probably could’ve gotten across in Spanish but I take my intercambio cues from the other person.)
I said we came in last time on 3 July, and I was really struggling to find something to celebrate about my country. His playlist and jubilant celebration of it was a temporary pick-me-up not only for me but also for many of my readers.
Because sometimes people like to hear an insignificant or seemingly meaningless thing they did gave someone else hope.
He also gave us free dessert. And nothing says HOPE like free dessert. :)
What gave YOU hope this week?
