Over the weekend, the military action in Iran heated up again, as the US launched “limited, precise” strikes on Iranian missile launchers that were threatening ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran retaliated by ** firing eight ballistic missiles at US bases in Jordan**. Fortunately, all were intercepted with no injuries except for one that was allowed to pass because it wasn’t going to hit anything anyway.
Then on Sunday, the US launched an attack on small Larak Island after IRGC forces there were seen preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait. There were reportedly two fatalities in the attack.
On Monday, Iran fired back with blustery rhetoric, vowing to respond to every US attack with force “20 times greater.” “Than what” is not clear. President Trump posted on Truth Social, “Iran is officially a Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD! They have no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no currency, they are not paying their soldiers or police, Inflation is at 300%, and their leadership is in total disarray and incapable of properly representing the country.
“The only thing they have is FAKE NEWS from the USA, a willingness to kill their protesters (now over 100,000 people dead. They must be tried for war crimes against humanity!), and a good line of ‘B******T.’
Nevertheless, fears over a flare-up in violence drove oil prices higher Monday and stock markets lower.
Sunday night, President Trump gave an interview to Fox News’ Trey Gowdy. He explained the urgency of dealing with Iran, claiming that they were close to developing a nuclear weapon, and if they had one, they would immediately use it, and Israel would be gone. As of this writing, the video is not yet online for everyone, but ** this article has some quotes**.
Also over the weekend, President Trump and Venezuela’s President ** announced a “historic” oil deal**. Trump said on Truth Social that the 25-year deal to develop 17 oil fields in Venezuela will give the US majority control of more than 65 billion barrels (about 1.5 million barrels a day) of Venezuela’s oil reserves, the largest in the world. Trump called it “THE BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY,” and his aides noted that it was reached “at no cost to American taxpayers.”
Trump went on, “This Historic Transaction MORE THAN DOUBLES American Oil Reserves, greatly increases our Oil Supply, and will substantially lower Gas Prices for all Americans, long into the future.” Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the deal a huge win for both nations, bringing $100 billion of job-creating investment to rebuild Venezuela’s economy while lowering US gas prices and providing “stable reserves and low-cost oil” to the Western Hemisphere.
Oil trader Phil Flynn told Fox News that this was a “generational win for Americans” because it will bring a generation of lower gas prices.
Trump also ** announced plans to use Venezuelan oil to refill the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve**, which is at historic lows due to the Biden Administration draining it for political purposes.
While the deal was praised by oil industry leaders and Venezuela’s President, ** it was condemned by Democrats and liberal media outlets**, who claimed it won’t lower gas prices. Rep. Ro Khanna said this is “not what America should be, given our principles” (funny, we’d say the same thing about socialism.) He also declared it strategically and “morally wrong” for the US to take Venezuelan oil, calling it “colonization.”
If “colonization” means yanking some kneejerk anti-Trump argument out of your colon, then we agree, that’s a pretty good example of it.
As we’ve long reported, New York Attorney General Letitia James campaigned for office on a promise to weaponize her powers to “get Trump” on something, and whatever it was would be determined later. This is the opposite of the way a justice system in a civilized First World nation should work.
Now we have confirmation from an inside whistleblower that James has corrupted the New York state legal system to target political enemies. Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld, a former Brooklyn prosecutor now assigned to the Investor Protection Bureau, ** sent an email Friday to about 2,000 colleagues**, the New York Post and Just The News, an email that was quickly deleted from the servers, but it was too late to suppress it.
Wiesenfeld said his boss, Shamiso Maswoswe, had ordered him “to find and pursue crimes committed by specific individuals and organizations affiliated with Donald Trump.” The targets included Trump, Truth Social, and Hewlett Packard, even though the DOJ had already approved its $14 billion merger with Jupiter Networks. Weisenfeld said there was “no credible reason” for targeting any of those people or companies.
He wrote, “If you believe Trump is using the Department of Justice attorneys to prosecute his enemies and further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish is doing exactly the same thing.” (We would add a key difference: those charged or under investigation by the Trump DOJ are suspected of actual crimes, not crimes that have to be made up out of whole cloth.)
He concluded, “I ask that you not serve as Tish’s personal attorneys by targeting her political enemies. Instead, I hope you choose to prosecute crimes and find the individuals accountable, rather than targeting individuals and then finding crimes.” FYI: That’s a statement of the most basic rule for a justice system in a civilized First World nation. You discover a crime and charge a suspect; you don’t target a person and then try to find a crime to charge him with.
That link from Discern Report also notes James’ history of openly boasting of using her office to go after Trump, as well as listing some of the really serious crimes that she ignores while chasing Trump like Captain Ahab chasing Moby Dick. This email that her corrupt agency tried to hide is further proof that if anything deserves to be harpooned, it’s Letitia James’ political career.
