A federal judge ordered the Department of Homeland Security to halt an operation sending armed agents door to door in multiple states. Agents asked residents about their immigration status and voting history, seeking noncitizen voters before the midterms.
The administration has suggested up to 250,000 people may be illegally registered, though no evidence of numbers that high has been made public. Critics said the visits could deter lawful voters, like naturalized citizens.
**The ruling:**Agents used lists matching voter rolls to federal citizenship data. The judge found the lists likely error-prone and said the effort likely violated the Voting Rights Act. She paused her order until Friday evening to allow an appeal; it runs through Election Day.

A gunman fired from his vehicle in the Paris suburbs, killing one man and wounding five others, including a 12-year-old girl, this past Friday. Police arrested a 39-year-old suspect and placed him under psychiatric evaluation.
Anti-terrorism prosecutors opened a murder probe into whether victims were targeted for their real or perceived race, ethnicity, or religion. The man killed was of African origin.
**The response:**France’s interior minister called it a racist, likely anti-Muslim attack. The girl, shot eight times, is stable after surgery. The shooting is not believed to be linked to France’s ongoing cost-of-living protests.
Three men allege in a new documentary that the late Sen. Lindsey Graham paid them for sex, and one says he was 17 at the time. The film contrasts their accounts with Graham’s conservative public record.
The Young Turks’ co-founder said the claims merit public scrutiny. A Turning Point USA figure dismissed the film, saying the rumors were long known.
**The allegations:**Kelvin says he met Graham in 2001 at an Arizona event the film links to John McCain. He says Graham worried he was underage, but Kelvin claimed he was 18 and was paid $120. The claims may also affect Graham’s sister, who is seeking to succeed him.
