One of the world’s biggest country music stars, Zach Bryan, just broke concert attendance records while wearing a Free Palestine shirt at Robert Kraft’s Gillette Stadium. Specifically, 73,538 fans saw him and his band wearing shirts calling attention to Israel’s ongoing genocide.
It should be noted that Bryan also had “Appeal to Heaven” on the shirt, which has been used in recent years by Christian nationalists, including Sam Alito’s wife during the January 6th insurrection. Kraft canceled Macklemore for saying "Free Palestine," but so far he hasn’t done anything about Bryan.
The genocide is no longer a left-right issue, but a top-down issue in which the nation’s establishment is trying to police and discipline a youth that refuses to listen or bend the knee.
The Cornell Rape Scandal is another issue that has gone viral and broken out of Ivy League containment. The attempt to cover up the gang rape of a student became international news thanks to the intrepid, brave work of student journalists. Since then, people have taken to social media demanding accountability and answers.
In the WNBA, both players and fans are no longer staying silent against MAGA’s deliberate and cruel politicization of the sport. The ongoing, casual racism and misogyny, especially against Black athletes, is being called out by the athletes themselves. Social media, in particular, is being used by fans to demand change and push back against the anti-transgender culture wars imposed upon the sport by MAGA freaks.
According to journalist Grace Weinstein, editor of “Who Broke It?” Substack, these three stories are examples of how young people are resisting institutional narratives, demanding accountability, and proving yet again that politics are downstream from culture.
