What if Zoom could make you look like you’re sitting up straight and making eye contact, even when you’re not? Or make your voice easier to understand without changing your accent?
Those are just a couple of the new features I got to see at Zoomtopia 2026, the company’s annual conference where it shows off what’s coming next.
It’s funny because Zoom became a household name during the pandemic, when we were all stuck at home staring at each other through screens. Now the company is trying to become something much bigger than a video calling app.
I attended Zoomtopia in person, which was a little ironic considering the company built its reputation on helping people avoid meeting in person.
One of the biggest themes this year was artificial intelligence, specifically using it to make meetings more productive and less awkward.
Take Pose Correction, for example. Flip a switch and Zoom can make it appear as though you’re sitting up straight and looking directly at the camera, even if you’re glancing at your screen. The idea is to make video conversations feel more natural.
Then there’s Touch Up My Voice, which uses AI to make speech clearer and easier to understand. Zoom says it’s not trying to erase anyone’s accent, just improve how words and intonation come across.
Another interesting addition is deepfake detection, which analyzes video and audio during meetings for signs that someone’s face or voice might be artificially generated. With AI impersonation becoming more convincing, this could be especially useful for businesses.
Zoom is also expanding beyond meetings with spreadsheets, documents and presentations that can be generated from conversations. A feature called My Notes captures what’s said and shown during meetings so you can search for information later.
I even completed a mini mission at the conference using several of these tools, including creating documents and translating conversations between languages in real time.
My biggest takeaway? Zoom has become much more than the app most of us remember from 2020. The company wants to keep more of your work in one place instead of making you bounce between different apps.
Of course, not everything is free. Zoom still offers a free plan, typically with a 40-minute limit on group meetings, but some of these new AI capabilities require paid plans.
Many of the features are expected to roll out over the next few months, so don’t be surprised if your next Zoom meeting looks, sounds and works a little differently.
