What did the declassified documents reveal?

Project Condign – The Full Condign Report. Released in 2020, this document is a culmination of a study undertaken by the Defence Intelligence Analysis Staff in 2000 to determine the potential value of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) sighting reports to Defence Intelligence. This document is a property of Her Britannic Majesty's Government and is issued for the information of those who need to know its contents in the course of official duties. Any unauthorized retention or destruction of this document is an offence under the Official Secrets Act 1911-1989. Scientific & Technical Memorandum 55/2100, dated December 2000, begins with an executive summary. The Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, had requested a report on the topic of UAP in 1952. The document notes that the topic has remained an enigma since earliest recorded history, with more UAP reported and more objects in the sky that can be misreported. The main report, contained in Volume 1 - RESTRICTED, describes the background, methodology used, the data base, and the statistical analysis. Supporting technical point papers covering topics relevant to an understanding of the phenomena are contained in Volume 2 - RESTRICTED. Volume 3, classified, considers classified radar performance data and assesses relevant technologies in the context of potential military applications and UAP as potential hazards to aircraft. The introduction to the report states that UAP sightings are usually described as coloured lights and shapes, typically spherical, disc, torroidal, or cigar-shaped. They are reported to occur on a daily, worldwide basis, with the UK annual reporting rate summarized at Figure I. The phenomena are credited with the ability to hover, land, take-off, accelerate to exceptional velocities, and vanish, exhibiting aerodynamic characteristics beyond those of any known aircraft or missile. The study method involved examining a statistically representative sample of reports received between 1987 and 1997, using a relational database to study the pattern and nature of UAP. Hundreds of other reports were examined manually, with the purpose of providing graphical and tabular analysis of the number of reported UAP events by date, type, time, and location.
