In the consumer and mobile sectors, 3D sensing continues to be a significant source of revenue. According to the 2025 3D Imaging & Sensing report released by Yole Group, the market is projected to exceed $7.5 billion by 2029. Smartphones accounted for approximately 84% of total shipments in 2024, with sales surpassing 500 million units. Apple continues to lead the architectural development of front-facing 3D sensing systems.
At the same time, multiple companies are developing metasurface technology based on metamaterials and applying it to 3D sensing modules operating at a single near-infrared (NIR) wavelength. As a result, the mobile sector is expected to become the primary driver of revenue growth, with mobile revenue projected to reach $443 million by 2029. This growth will be driven mainly by the integration of metasurface technology into dToF multi-zone array modules for autofocus assistance and face recognition modules. The tablet sector is also expected to contribute further growth, as tablet modules adopt architectures similar to those used in smartphones.
