Sewing?! Yes, sewing. While my Substack is not terribly sewing-forward, I do like to occasionally highlight my monthly sewing projects. For those of you (I imagine, 90% of you, if not more) who don’t care about sewing or fashion, feel free to ignore and wait for another article you like better in a day or two. However, for the sewists among us, read on:
As some of you may know, I went nuts sewing various versions of the Audrina dress pattern I discovered on Etsy. This dress is *extremely * short, so I had to lengthen it by at least four inches every time I made it (the first time, I missed this so I just added a ruffle.) But now I’ve made four iterations of it, and this was the third (for the fourth, look out for the October sewing roundup next month.)
This dress works best with a lightweight cotton (it’s also lined) and this was probably the best fabric I used for it—some surprisingly cheap blue striped cotton lawn from Lyrical Fabrics (one of my favorite fashion shops.) Unfortunately, it’s extremely spring-summer and not really in season right now, so I’ll have to put this one away until the sun comes out again!
This pair of pants has already become a Holy Grail item for me. The fabric also came from Lyrical Fabrics but is sadly out of stock—it’s a sort of avocado-colored (muted chartreuse, if you will) viscose blend. It’s genuinely one of the most comfortable, breezy fabrics I’ve ever worn. The pattern was a bastardized version of some old high-waisted pants pattern I downloaded ages ago, I forget from where. But I’ve already gotten so many compliments on them!
