Welcome to another Fashion Friday! Each Friday, I will cover something fashion-oriented. Sometimes fashion for men, sometimes sewing projects, sometimes just essays on how fashion intersects with social dynamics, and more! (For those of you who don’t like fashion, never fear, this is unique to Fridays, and I publish nearly every day.)
This time feels extra special to me, because I’m covering October, my favorite month for fashion. The colors are nearly universally flattering (who doesn’t look good in burgundy?) and the weather is just cold enough to give you an excuse to wear a cool jacket, but not cold enough to warrant bundling yourself up like Ali G in his 2026 movie (don’t let the image fool you, the movie is borderline-unwatchable. Sad!)
This month, I wore a lot of burgundy, a lot of vintage, and a non-zero amount of Victorian-inspired bustles. Onwards!
As indicated from the title, I got really into vintage Gunne Sax this month. Gunne Sax was a clothing brand that originated in 1967 in San Francisco, specializing in a really fun aesthetic where Summer of Love meets Edwardian meets cottagecore (you’ll know it when you see it) and you can still find it in abundance on second-hand clothing sites, although finding a good deal can be a bit harder. Also, watch out for sizing! Vintage clothes run small, but this brand seems to run really small, so always check measurements.
For a casual day out with my kids, I wore this denim Gunne Sax dress with floral trim, alongside some Miu Miu inspired moto boots from Gisele Moire, a vintage Coach shoulder/crossbody bag in teal suede, and a 1970s vintage suede jacket in chocolate brown. Arguably a little busy, but I was happy with it.
