Wi-Fi 7 is still in the process of being rolled out, but the roadmap for its successor is already beginning to take shape. The first Wi-Fi 8 products are expected to begin limited availability by the end of 2026 or in 2027. While Wi-Fi 7 focused on increasing speed, the next-generation Wi-Fi standard—Wi-Fi 8 (technically known as IEEE 802.11bn)—will introduce new features designed to deliver higher and more stable speeds in real-world usage environments.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm unveiled its FastConnect 8800 mobile platform, claiming that its gigabit wireless transmission range is three times greater than the previous generation. However, this is only Qualcomm’s claim regarding the platform’s performance and does not represent a comprehensive official commitment to Wi-Fi 8 compared to Wi-Fi 7.
Wi-Fi 8 aims to bridge the gap between the freedom of wireless connectivity and the stability of wired connections.
